Mushrooms 4 Life My Complex Capsules Review

MyComplex Mushrooms 4 Life

Mushrooms 4 Life are a British company who aim to “make the wonderful therapeutic properties of medicinal mushrooms accessible to everyone.” They stock a range of premium mushroom supplements, including capsules, powders, lattes and coffees.

I’ve just finished a bottle of their organic My Complex capsules. They’re designed to support overall health and vitality. Each capsule contains a blend of reishi spores, cordyceps and maitake.

MyComplex contains no additives or fillers just 1000mg of full-spectrum mushroom and spores per two capsule serving. One bottle contains 60 capsules, and the directions suggest that you take two, 1-3 times a day. I chose to take two lots of two capsules, one pair first thing and the second at about 6 pm every day. This way, they lasted me for a whole month.

First Impressions

From the sturdy, well-presented glass bottle to the informative website, I was immediately impressed. It definitely appears that Mushrooms 4 Life has paid attention to the details. I was pleased to see that the capsules are made from HPMC to be suitable for vegans and have even been approved by the Vegan Society.

I’ve been keen to try a mushroom supplement for a while now, and I’ve heard good things about this blend. I had a rough idea of the benefits of the mushrooms but still found it useful to read more about them on the product page:

Reishi – The Reishi spores are grown in China on duanwood, then they’re carefully cracked at low temperatures and then rolled to extract the active nutrients. Reishi is included for its powerful benefits to the liver and immune system.

Cordyceps – Is often used to boost energy levels and enhance hormone health.

Maitake – Maitake is rich in antioxidants and is most commonly used to support the body’s defences in demanding times.

The full ingredients are listed as;  organic reishi spores, organic cordyceps biomass, organic maitake biomass, and a vegetable cellulose capsule.

Who are Mushrooms 4 Life?

Mushrooms 4 Life is based in the UK and was founded by naturopaths and mushroom experts, Graham Botfield and Ben Shouler. Passionate about mushrooms’ therapeutic potential, they decided that they wanted to share their knowledge and products with the world. They started with a few simple products, and across the last few years, they’ve developed one of the most comprehensive ranges of medicinal mushroom supplements in the UK.

As well as creating useful products, Mushrooms 4 Life sees it as their role to educate people on the benefits of mushrooms. Even though many have been used in traditional remedies for thousands of years, modern society has yet to embrace their potential fully.

To ensure that their formulations are high-quality and useful, Mushrooms 4 Life have developed detailed techniques to harvest them and preserve their nutrients. All their mushrooms are grown on whatever medium is best for that variety; this means that their final nutrient profile will be similar to if they were grown in the wild. They’re nourished throughout their lifecycle to allow them to fully develop and ensure that they contain a full-spectrum of their bio-active power.

Awards and Certifications

Mushrooms 4 Life adheres to strict organic guidelines, and MyComplex has been awarded organic certification from the UK Soil Association. This can only be presented by an official body when the required standards have been met and can involve premises inspection and soil testing.

A third-party lab has also tested MyComplex to check each mushroom’s purity and screen for contaminants and toxins, including pesticides and heavy metals. They report that all the certificates demonstrate that safety thresholds have been met. Although Mushrooms 4 All don’t publish the certificates on their website, they do make them available by request in some circumstances.

I would have awarded a higher score if: The lab results were routinely published on the Mushrooms 4 All website.

Ease of Use

The capsules are an average size, of about 1.5cm in length and easy to swallow with a sip of water. The metal lid seals easily, but I would have preferred a child-safe cap for extra security.

Because the bottle is relatively heavy, it’s not the kind of thing you’d carry around in a pocket, but I kept them close to my bed, so I didn’t forget to take them when I got up or went to bed. The directions for use are basic, but there’s no need for lots of additional information when the product is so straightforward.

I would have awarded a higher score if: there was a child-safe cap.

Taste

The capsules have no noticeable flavour and added no taste to the water as I swallowed them.

How Effective Are They?

I took four capsules a day for a month. I didn’t notice any immediate effects, but after a couple of weeks, I found that my focus and concentration was significantly better. After the full thirty days, I realised that there was also an improvement in general vitality, day to day health.

My mood also seemed to have improved, and I felt a lot more positive and enthusiastic than usual. Because of these effects, I decided to get a second bottle and continue taking them. The positive results continued to improve, which led me to think that these can be slow to start, and you see the most impressive effects in the longer run.

I would have awarded a higher score if: the amount if the results were more powerful and if they began sooner.

Value for Money

I bought mine at for the Ageless where a bottle of 60 capsules costs £22.99, which is the equivalent of 38p per capsule. They aren’t cheap, but I felt that it was balanced out by the quality of the supplement and the effects I experienced over the month. I’d prefer the third-party lab results to be made public, but there are still many supplement brands that don’t’ even have the,

I would have awarded a higher score if: the amount of active ingredient per serving was slightly higher.
